Learning through Nature: Fruit Trees and the Outdoors
Como SOEL boasts large outdoor areas. The extensive landscaping of our Como childcare centre has been to further the children’s education. As a result, Como SOEL has outdoor environments that support and enhance the children’s learning. Areas dotted with garden beds filled with kitchen greens, fruits and vegetables. In addition, Como SOEL also has a broad range of fruit trees. We are looking forward to the children watching these trees grow and change with the seasons.
The SOEL Como Dining Experience
The kitchen at Como SOEL helps stimulate interest in new experiences, knowledge and relationships. Within a summer and winter menu cycle, delicious wholesome and nutritious meals are prepared daily from scratch on site. We make every effort to source organic fruit and vegetables where available. We build all of our meals upon the freshest, local and seasonal products available. This results in a dining experience that becomes a daily adventure—an adventure in taste, texture and colour.
The children also build relationships with each other as they come together for meals throughout the day. Our Como child care centre provides a two-course meal as well as morning and afternoon tea. We also produce fruit and dairy-based desserts as recommended by WA Health Department.
SOEL’s Como child care centre has been lovingly refurbished, with all rooms but the babies located in the original building. When designing the centre it was essential for the environment to be beautiful and well thought out, thus commanding respect from its participants. How can we expect children to want to focus on a task if they are surrounded by clutter and disorganisation? We cannot. Because of this, Como SOEL’s rooms are both inviting and encouragingly educational
